Indian Army Saves 45 People From Avalanche In J&K

A major rescue operation was carried out on Friday, February 08, 2008, in Jammu and Kashmir, which saved the life of 45 people including women and children. The operation was carried out in Gulabgarh village near Kajigund of south Srinagar, when an avalanche hit the village at 7in the morning. After getting the information, the army’s Avalanche Rescue Team rushed to the spot by 8.10 am and started the operation. Negotiating with heavy snowfall, the team succeeded in rescuing the buried personal in four and half hours. Three of the rescued people were very critical and instant first aid was provided to them but one of them succumbed. The rescue team was led by two officers comprising 26 other ranks of 49 Rashtriya Rifles, a section of 2 Rashtriya Rifle.
